bio
Being a real estate agent is the culmination of all of my academic and professional experience and I love the work I do.
My first career was in healthcare and I hold that time and work near and dear to my heart. After earning my Bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa I earned my Master's degree from The University of Washington in Medical Speech-Language Pathology. My client-centered approach to my work today was developed over a decade at the bedside helping patients regain their abilities to do things many of us take for granted like eating, drinking, and communicating. Healthcare professionals are my people and I relish the opportunity to provide for those who serve our community every time I have it.
Service is simply a part of my nature - my goal is to make the transaction, whether a purchase or a sale, as smooth as possible for my clients. I enjoy helping my clients understand the current conditions of the ever-changing real estate market, important timelines and state requirements, and how to stay competitive and put their best feet forward while protecting their financial future. After being a realtor for a few years now I've seen how my hospitality, patient care, and hospital leadership backgrounds developed the diverse skill set I now use to cater to each client's specific needs and circumstances, which makes me better poised to negotiate on their behalf. As a guide and a resource, I form quick bonds with my clients as we navigate the waters of home buying and selling. I'm a proud homeowner in the Woodstock neighborhood, and when I'm not scouting neighborhoods you will find me cooking at home, walking my dogs, and practicing yoga.
professional background
Education
BA Communication Disorders - The University of Iowa
MS in Medical Speech-Language Pathology - The University of Washington
Buying
I bought my first home right after graduate school. I had a good job but not enough work experience to qualify for a loan on my own, so my big sister was my co-signer on my loan. The reality is many first-time buyers need a little help from their families.
Owning
I have owned three homes in Southeast Portland: a 1950s ranch, a new construction LEED-certified home, and currently a remodeled home with an ADU. I know the pros and cons of each era of housing and what to keep in mind when buying.
Selling
I have sold two homes in Portland in the last 10 years. I understand how having your own house on the market can make you feel vulnerable and nervous, and passing off the keys when it's all over can be hard. I can also tell you not to fear, for selling is simply closing a chapter and starting a new adventure!
testimonials
“Amanda was awesome! We met her at a random open house and decided to use her as our buyer’s agent because of her friendliness and market knowledge. She was always prompt and guided us through the entire purchase process from start-to-finish. She checked in with us frequently and responded immediately to our concerns and questions. She went to bat for us on several occasions and negotiated favorable outcomes. Additionally, her recommendations on a moving company, a locksmith, and a professional window treatment supplier were all excellent. We highly recommend her and will definitely be using Amanda for our next sale and purchase!”
"Our experience having Amanda as our Real Estate Professional was beyond exceptional. For first-time buyers, we could not have asked for a better partner. Amanda is incredibly informed, insightful, responsive, and supportive. We were fortunate to have her on our side and cannot recommend her enough."
"We cannot speak highly enough of our experience working with Amanda Brown. From day one, she was extremely responsive, had excellent suggestions, listened to what we were looking for, and patiently guided us through several different homes and neighborhoods until we found "the one." Searching for and buying a home during a pandemic is not for the faint-hearted. Amanda made the entire process, including the negotiations and closing, simple and painless. We really enjoyed working with her. She is a true gem!"
"Amanda represented me with the selling and buying of my recent homes. This was my third time around and it was the best realtor experience by far. Amanda is warm, friendly and positive as well as highly professional. She communicates well and is organized. I had a big job ahead of me getting my house ready to sell and Amanda was the motivation I needed to get it listed. My house sold in less than 2 weeks! The process on both ends was smooth and less stressful due to Amanda and her referrals to other quality professionals. I would highly recommend Amanda!"
